Renaming Columns does not change the heading from A, B, or C to other terms. But, they do change the value that headings in columns have. Nevertheless, you can integrate rows and use them as headings instead of alphabets as well. Here, in this article, we have compiled multiple methods to rename columns in Google Sheets.
How to Rename Column in Google Sheets?
You can go through three separate paths to rename columns on Google Sheets. At the core, all three change the name of your column by defining the name of the column range. So, follow any of these methods to rename the columns you want.
Through Data Option on Toolbar
You need to access the Named ranges add-on of Google Sheets to rename columns. One of the easiest ways to do it is through the Data function available on the toolbar of Google Sheets. So, follow the steps mentioned below to rename a column on Google Sheets.
Through the Cell Actions Feature
For a single cell, you can apply the Named Range function through Cell Actions to rename the cell. But, you can change the individual cell to a column to rename columns. So, follow the methods mentioned below to do so.
Use the Name Box feature on Sheets
At the top left corner of the page, you can view the column name that has been changed with the Named Ranges feature. However, you can directly use the Name box to rename columns as well. So, follow the method mentioned below to do so. Once step two is complete, you can access the Name Box by pressing Ctrl + J. After that, proceed as instructed in step four.
How to Rename and Freeze Column Headings?
Columns stay at the top regardless of which row you’re on in your spreadsheet. Even after changing the name for the column, the term displayed at the top of the column remains as A, B, C, and so on. As an alternative, it is better to rename cells in the first row to use them as headings. You can freeze them afterward if you scroll through hundreds of rows and want the headings at the top. So, follow the method mentioned below to rename and freeze column headings.
